My main research objective is to find biological markers (especially electrophysiological) of cognitive functions specifically altered in various psychiatric pathologies (depression, anxiety, addiction, schizophrenia) that could help to better take care of these mental illnesses, in a complementary way to the classic psychotherapeutic and drug management.
My main research theme:
Investigate through brain imaging techniques (evoked potentials, functional magnetic resonance) cognitive deficits observable in many psychiatric populations, such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and the various forms of addiction.
Currently, my research focuses on three major axes:
1. study the effect of express drunk on the brain of young consumers;
2. attempt to define neurophysiological procedures readily usable in clinical environments and likely to improve cognitive management of psychiatric patients;
3. combine the simultaneous recording of the electroencephalogram with that of the functional magnetic resonance, in order to obtain the anatomical and temporal network linked to the decours of a specific cognitive task.

More about my research
Main topic of research
For the next few years, my research projects will develop mainly along two axes:
- The first axis will be the development of a research activity on the role played by sleep in the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders. Indeed, in the continuity of the research work of my thesis, it is important to continue research on the identification of electrophysiological markers related to sleep for psychiatric disorders. In this context, the development of specific care pathways (including comprehensive sleep assessments) for the different clinical populations present within the psychiatry department of the Brugmann University Hospital should be a priority in order to be able to implement both clinical studies (epidemiology, etc.) and fundamental studies (analyses of the different signals measured during polysomnographies, etc.).
- The second axis will be the development of a research activity on mood disorders resistant to treatment. Indeed, it is important to be able to better identify markers of resistance to treatments in these patients in order to develop more appropriate therapeutic strategies. In this context, the development of specific care pathways (including treatments with esketamine, transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy) for patients with treatment-resistant mood disorders within the psychiatry department of the Brugmann University Hospital should be a priority in order to be able to implement both clinical studies (identification of clinical risk factors, etc.) and fundamental studies (analyses of the different electrophysiological measurements in relation to stimulation treatments, etc.).

About my research
About my research
My research interests in people with behavioral addictions (eg, pathological gambling) and substances (eg, alcohol dependence) are as follows:
– Study of motivational systems: approach and avoidance trends, attention bias, memory bias
– Study of self-regulation resources (inhibition, flexibility, updating, etc.)
– Study of the components of decision-making under uncertainty (risk management, intuition, etc.)
– How to restore self-control over addictive behaviors? Study of cognitive remediation strategies
-Study of social cognitive (treatment of emotions, theory of the mind, etc.)
– Computational approach to decision making: dilemne exploitation / exploration; model-based and model-free reinforcement learning
– Study of dissociative states related to decision-making in people with addictive behaviors
– Multivariate modeling (cognitive processing, thoughts, expectations, relationships to others, life events, etc.) addictive behaviors
– Goal-oriented systems and habits: what level of relevance in addictive behaviors?
